Request Parental Event Accommodation
Parental Accommodation for Graduate Students on Assistantship (PROV-028) This policy provides parental accommodation for graduate students serving as Teaching or Research Assistants or as instructors of record. Eligible students may receive up to eight weeks of paid leave, which can begin up to one week before the expected event and continue for no more than eight weeks afterward. This accommodation supports students during significant family events, such as the birth or adoption of a child. Please review the policy here for more details.
Requests must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the proposed leave start date to allow sufficient time for processing.
Eligibility
Students must:
- Be enrolled full-time in a graduate program
- Be in good academic standing
- Hold a graduate assistantship (GTA or GRA) or serve as an instructor of record
- Obtain written approval from GSAS
Request Process
- The student must first seek approval from their Director of Graduate Studies.
- The Director will endorse the request by emailing the Assistant Dean.
- The Graduate School will coordinate with the Office of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Affairs (OGPA) and the student’s department to arrange funding.
- The department is responsible for arranging a replacement Teaching Assistant (TA) if needed.
