SERU stands for Student Experience in the Research University it functions as a systematic and longitudinal scan of the graduate student experience within major research-intensive universities. The purpose of the survey is to enhance student experience and to practice institutional self-improvement. Administered biennially to graduate students at UVA, the survey accounts for, among other subjects, the admission process, financial support, advising, research experience, teaching experience, program climate, health and well-being, obstacles to completion, and career plans. Participation is voluntary and responses are confidential. Students who participate are eligible to win one of 100 gift certificates to their choice of 100+ retailers.
